Your bill shows kWh used over the billing period. Divide by the days in the period to get kWh per day, then compare with a station's capacity. For most homes the answer is clear: a power station covers chosen loads, not the whole house.

The US average

The EIA says that in 2022 the average US residential customer bought 10,791 kWh, about 899 kWh per month. Louisiana was highest at 14,774 kWh and Hawaii lowest at 6,178 kWh.

Worked maths

  1. 10,791 kWh ÷ 365 ≈ 29.6 kWh per day.
  2. DELTA 3 Plus: 1024 Wh, so a full day of average use is about 29 times its capacity.
  3. DELTA Pro 3: 4096 Wh, about 7 times.

Use your own bill: for example, 600 kWh over a 30-day period is 20 kWh per day.

What to do with the number

Pick the loads that matter in an outage (fridge, CPAP, router, lights) and size for those with the sizing guide. For the fridge and CPAP, see fridge runtime and CPAP runtime. For bigger systems, see DELTA Pro 3 vs F3800 Plus.
